Refueling your car in Italy is easy – but different than in Denmark.
With these 5 tips you can avoid mistakes, frustration and unnecessary costs.
1. Servito or Self – make the right choice
- Servito = valet fueling for you (more expensive)
- Self / Non Servito = you refuel yourself (cheapest)
Most locals choose Self.
2. The colors of the pumps can be deceiving
Colors are not standardized in Italy.
Always read the text:
- Gasoline = petrol
- Gasolio = diesel
3. Cards do not always work
Especially at unmanned stations.
- Always have cash as backup
4. An amount is often reserved
Typically €100-150 is reserved temporarily.
- The money is released automatically
5. Many stations are unmanned
Staffed:
- Closes in the middle of the day
- Closes in the evening
- Often closed on Sunday
