5 things you need to know before refueling your car in Italy

Refueling your car in Italy is easy – but different than in Denmark.
With these 5 tips you can avoid mistakes, frustration and unnecessary costs.

1. Servito or Self – make the right choice

  • Servito = valet fueling for you (more expensive)
  • Self / Non Servito = you refuel yourself (cheapest)

Most locals choose Self.

2. The colors of the pumps can be deceiving

Colors are not standardized in Italy.

Always read the text:

  • Gasoline = petrol
  • Gasolio = diesel

3. Cards do not always work

Especially at unmanned stations.

  • Always have cash as backup

4. An amount is often reserved

Typically €100-150 is reserved temporarily.

  • The money is released automatically

5. Many stations are unmanned

Staffed:

  • Closes in the middle of the day
  • Closes in the evening
  • Often closed on Sunday

Self-service still works
